abstract

carbonate successions of the sarvak formation (late albian? to mid-turonian) together with the carbonate of the ilam formation formed the second important hydrocarbon reservoirs in sw iran and persian gulf. facies analyses were carried out on the upper parts of the sarvak formation in western part of the ahwaz oilfield (az-63 well) to interpret depositional environment. lithologically, the upper part of sarvak formation is composed of clean to argillaceous limestones, which have been partly dolomitized in some intervals. based on this study, 15 microfacies were identified that are grouped into 6 facies associations, deposited in a homoclinal ramp-like carbonate platform in the studied well. facies distribution is also investigated in the suggested depositional model using the frequency pie-diagram. biotratigraphic studies were carried out on microfossils of the sarvak formation and resulted in presentation of three biozones including nezzazata-alveolinid assemblage zone (cenomanian), rudist debris zone (cenomanian-turonian) and moncharmontia apenninica-nezzazatinella-dicyclina assemblage zone (turonian). these are closely correlated with the biozonation scheme of wynd (1965).

Benthic foraminiferal and calcareous algal biostratigraphy of the Fahliyan Formation in oil well no. X1, Dorood Oilfield, Persian Gulf

The Dorood oilfield is located offshore in the northern part of the Persian Gulf. It partly underlies the Kharg Island. The Neocomian Fahliyan Formation represents the high-quality reservoir in the oilfield. It includes five carbonate members: The Manifa, Middle and Upper Yamama, Khami and Lower Ratawi. The Fahliyan Formation in the studied well attains a thickness of 378.1 m and mainly consist...

Sedimentary structures and depositional environment of the Ashin Formation in Nakhlak area, Central Iran

Middle to Upper Triassic (Upper Ladinian to Lower Carnian) deep-sea sedimentary rocks crop out across a large area west of Nakhlak village, Central Iran and have been named Ashin Formation. The up to 304m thick, turbiditic, siliciclastic Ashin Formation consists of alternating turbiditic, thin- and medium-bedded calcareous sandstones, purple, fine-grained volcaniclastic sandstones, and mostly g...

The Gurpi Formation, one of the geologycal units of the Zagros Basin, stretches with in the Folded Zagros in the provinces of Khuzestan, Lorestan, and Fars,in southwest Iran. In all 525 samples were collected from five stratigraphic sectiones of the Gurpi Formation in Dezful embayment Zone for studying biostratigraphy. Totally 47 species from 23 Planktonic foraminifera genera were recognized in...

Relationship Between Depositional Facies and Reservoir Characteristics of the Oligo-Miocene Asmari Formation, Aghajari Oilfield, SW Iran

The present study focuses on facies analysis and the reservoir characteristics of the Asmari Formation in the Aghajari oilfield (located in the Zagros fold-thrust belt, southwest Iran), and how they are linked to depositional environments and reservoir characteristics. This formation consists of about 380 m carbonates with some siliciclastic intercalations. Based on the integration of 1200 m of...
